MIDDEN

by Morna Regan

MIDDEN was first performed by Rough Magic Theatre Company at The Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in August 2001 and at Hampstead Theatre in October 2001. Directed by Lynne Parker

MIDDEN is the story of five women, from three generations. Full of humour and vitality, Morna Regan's debut play un-picks the tangled threads between past and present, mothers and daughters, exile and home. After fifteen years in Philadelphia, Ruth has built up a business successful enough to bring her home to Derry. But instead of the welcome she has longed for, her arrival provokes instant strife, opening old scars and revealing incendiary secrets.

…the strength of the writing is in the well-observed family exchanges that lend an authenticity to the piece
John Nathan, Jewish Chronicle

Regan's writing is tough, sensitive and nimble, with an earthy sense of humour.
John Peter, Sunday Times

…this assured, well-made play develops its characters and situations through witty, thought-provoking dialogue…it slyly reveals dark secrets that remain unresolved.
John Thaxter, What's On

Midden is about growing up, getting out, and never quite managing to sweep up the mess you left behind.
Neil Cooper, The Herald

MIDDEN is published by Nick Hern Books
