DAVID
EDGAR
|
David
Edgar is one of England's foremost political playwrights. He
took up full time writing in 1972 after a short career in journalism.
Since 1976 his main theatre involvement has been with the Royal
Shakespeare Company. He has also worked at the Royal National
Theatre and is on the board at the Birmingham Repertory Company.
He
founded, and until 1999 directed Britains's first post-graduate
course in Playwrighting at the University of Birminghgam
where he held an honorary professorship.
He
is the recipient of numerous awards including the Arts Council's
John Whiting Award for DESTINY, the Society of West End Theatres
and a New York Tony (Best Play) for THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF
NICHOLAS NICKLEBY and the Plays and Players' Best Play Award
for MAYDAYS. he also won the Evening standard Award (Best Play)
for PENTECOST. |
