LITTLE
SWEET THING
Roy William's new
play, commissioned by eclipse Theatre explores the lives of six
teenagers caught up in the pressures of gang culture.
BONE
John Donnelly's powerful three-hander premiered at the Royal
Court Theatre in September 2004. Stephen wants his ex to realise
he's got what it takes. Helen wants her dead husband back. Jamie
wants a girl to see him off to war. Three lives are stripped
bare in a mordern world.
THE STRAITS
Gregory Burke's long awaited second play, which has recently
finished a run at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, draws on Burke's
own experiences growing up as part of a family stationed in Gibraltar
during the Falklands War.
THE
SHAPE OF METAL
Thomas Kilroy's powerful
and provocative new play explores the life and work of a sculptor,
Nell Jeffrey and her complex and often difficult relationship
with her two daughters as they are forced to confront the events
of the past and exorcise its unquiet ghosts.
FALLOUT
by Roy Williams. When a huge reward is offered for information
about the killing of a boy, a group of close friends on the estate
face the biggest test of street loyalty yet.
CONTINENTAL DIVIDE
David Edgar's two-play cycle, exploring the dynamic of US
politics was produced by the oregon Shakespeare Festival in February
and will transfer to Berkeley Repertory Theatre in November.
THE
SAFARI PARTY
New
Tim Firth comedy, produced by the Stephen Joseph Theatre
in May 2002 opened at Hampstead Theatre in March 2003. A 2 1/4
mile long dinner party in Cheshire involving considerably more
ambushes, traps and predators than an African Safari.
RECENT REVIVALS:-
THE
DEEP BLUE SEA
Theatre
Royal Bath Productions revives Terence Rattigan's play,
which stars Harriet Walters as Hester Collyer, who, deserted
by her husband, falls for the raffish charms of an ex-fighter
pilot. Opened in Bath on 15 September and tours until 1 November.
A
DAY IN THE DEATH JOE EGG
Peter Nichols classic
comedy opened at The Roundabout Theatre, New York 14 March and
ran until 25 May. The play received Four Tony nominations including
Best Revival.
PRIVATE
LIVES
Noël Coward's 1930 masterpiece was revived
in the West End in September 2001. After its West End run it
transferred to Broadway in April 2002, still with Lindsay Duncan
and Alan Rickman in the leading roles, where it won three Tony
Awards including Best Revival.
FORTUNE'S FOOL
Mike Poulton's adaptation of the Turgenev play opened at
the Music Box Theatre, New York on 22 February 2002 starring
Alan Bates and Frank Langella, both of whom won Tony Awards for
their performances.
THE
ELEPHANT MAN
Bernard Pomerance's play opened on Broadway
in April 2002, directed by Sean Mathias and starring Billy Crudup
and Kate Burton, both of whom received Tony nominations for their
roles.
THE VORTEX
First performed in 1924, Noël Coward's play was
revived at the Donmar Warehouse in February 2003, directed by
Michael Grandage and starring Francesca Annis and Chewitel Ejiofor.
THE
BROWNING VERSION
Terence Rattigan's 1948 play was revived by
The Derby Playhouse, with Corin Redgrave in the lead role of
Crocker-Harris. Redgrave was the recipient of the TMA Award 2002
for Best Actor for his performance in this role.
MEDEA
Kenneth McLeish and
Frederic Raphael's translation of Euripides play starring
Fiona Shaw was revived at The Abbey Theatre, Dublin before WestEnd,
followed by a Broadway run which ended in February 2003.
