Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky
Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky are a British playwriting partnership whose work includes COALITION, MAKING NEWS, KINGMAKER, IMPOSSIBLE, BREXIT, THE GANG OF THREE and IN THE PRINT.
They began writing together at university and later co-founded the satirical website THE BRAINS TRUST. Their first stage play, COALITION, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012 and transferred to London. It was followed by MAKING NEWS, based on an original reading starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, KINGMAKER, IMPOSSIBLE and BREXIT, which played Edinburgh and the King’s Head Theatre.
THE GANG OF THREE, directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward, premiered at the King’s Head Theatre in 2025. The play, about Denis Healey, Roy Jenkins and Tony Crosland, received four-star reviews from The Guardian and The Stage and returns to the King’s Head in autumn 2026 before a UK tour.
Their most recent play, IN THE PRINT, directed by Josh Roche, tells the story of Rupert Murdoch, Brenda Dean and the 1986 Wapping dispute. It premiered at the King’s Head in 2026, receiving four-star reviews from The Guardian, The Stage and Libby Purves and five stars from the Morning Star. Robert and Tom also write extensively for audio and have been regularly commissioned by Big Finish Productions since 2015, including dramas for DOCTOR WHO and THE AVENGERS.
Robert studied law at Cambridge and Southampton and was called to the Bar in 1995. He has worked in Parliament, law, public policy and politics and is Chair of the Board of the King’s Head Theatre. Tom is Artistic Director of improvisation company The Spontaneity Shop, co-author of THE IMPROV HANDBOOK and producer of the award-winning podcast THE GUILTY FEMINIST. He is also co-creator and host of the film podcast BEST PICK and author of BEST PICK: A JOURNEY THROUGH FILM HISTORY.
Robert and Tom are currently developing SAVING ALAN TURING, a new play exploring the final years of Alan Turing’s life through his relationship with his psychotherapist, Dr Franz Greenbaum, alongside other projects for stage, television and screen.
